Sometimes it’s hard to believe that God really loves me, especially when I mess up, fail or make a bad decision. But actually, none of us are perfect, except Jesus of course! One of the first Bible verses that I memorized when I became a Christian is this (and it's a really good one to ponder if you’ve messed up, failed or made a bad decision): ‘God so loved the world that he gave his only son to die for us (John 3:16). According to this verse, God must love imperfect people like me and you. In fact Paul underlined this by writing, ‘While we were still sinners, Christ died for us’ (Romans 5:8). God knows everything about us and knows that perfect people do not exist. We all fail and get things wrong. But God’s love for you and me is so much bigger than all our mistakes. God loves imperfect people: ‘God so loved the world.’ During these Lockdown days, we might feel under pressure or stressed. Maybe our relationships suffer and the imperfections in ourselves or others so easily come to the surface. But here’s the thing, everyone knows that their marriage partner is not perfect. We all know that our children or grandchildren are far from perfect and we know that our friends are not perfect. But we keep on loving these people don’t we? We don’t give up on them. We all love imperfect people. If we love imperfect people then it shouldn’t surprise us that God loves imperfect people even more. He loves us all so much 'that he gave his only son to die for us.’ Thought for the week? God loves imperfect people.
